What is the Connecticut PURA?
More than 550,000 households and over 85,000 businesses in Connecticut have taken advantage of energy choice. All energy consumers in Connecticut, from residents to large corporations, have the ability to compare electricity rates from many suppliers. In each deregulated state, a government commission oversees utility rates and services.
The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) manages the deregulated energy market of the state. It issues licenses for electricity suppliers to ensure they have met strict requirements for doing business in Connecticut. The department also powers Energize CT, which educates consumers about their energy options.
