As of May 18, Texas moved into the second phase of reopening following the state’s stay-at-home order during the month of April. Phase two expands on the list of businesses and activities allowed to reopen.
The Baylor College of medicine, located in Houston, will soon deploy antibody testing in an effort to contain further spread of COVID-19. Antibody testing will detect whether a person has been infected with coronavirus and will likely provide more insight into how the virus affects a wider population.
The oil and natural gas industry cut 26,300 jobs in Texas during April. These job cuts were a direct result of shutdowns from COVID-19.
Gas prices in Houston rose 4 cents to $1.59 per gallon. This marks the first time in more than two months gas prices have increased, although they are still 93 cents lower than a year ago.
