StarTex Power, one of the leading retail electricity providers in Houston, Texas has signed a definitive merger agreement to be acquired by Constellation Energy. Rated #1 for customer satisfaction by JD Power and associates and recipient of the award for #1 Fastest growing company in 2009 by Inc Magazine – StarTex is dedicated to providing clients with high quality customer care and affordable low rates. Their number one goal is to treat their employees, investors, and customers with care and respect.
This is a big move by Constellation as it now has a considerable market share in Texas with StarTex Power’s 170,000 customers. Started in 2004 by Bob and Marcie Zlotnik, StarTex Power has grown into one of the more trusted retail electric providers in the highly competitive Texas electricity market.
In their press release about the merger, Chief Executive Officer and President of StarTex Power Bob Zlotnik added: “We have a high degree of respect for Constellation and believe that this is really the pairing of two strengths. This merger provides us with greater accessibility to expansion while giving Constellation a strong presence in the Texas market focused on mass market growth.”
We see this as a positive transaction for customers in the state of Texas and a positive sign that electricity deregulation is working in Texas. Customers large and small will benefit from this transaction with increased competition across the state. StarTex Power will continue to operate in Texas and remain headquartered in Houston, Texas.
