Types of rates offered by Constellation Energy
Constellation Energy offers a variety of energy plans for customers to choose from. Here are some of the plan types the company offers:
- Fixed-rate plan: A fixed-rate energy plan allows you to secure a stable rate with a fixed contract length. For this type of plan, you’ll pay the same rate each month until your contract ends, giving you month-to-month electricity bill stability. Most fixed-rate plans range in length from 12 to 36 months. If you want to cancel a fixed-rate plan before your contract ends, you’ll likely have to pay an early termination fee (ETF).
- Variable-rate plan: Constellation Energy only offers its variable-rate energy plans in Texas. You aren’t locked into a contract with this type of plan, and your rate will fluctuate with the current market. This means that in months of low demand, you can get a competitive rate. However, when demand spikes, your bill will go up.

No-deposit options from Constellation Energy
Depending on your credit score, you may be required to pay a deposit when you sign up for your energy plan. A deposit is mandatory for most customers, but Constellation Energy may waive it if you meet certain credit score requirements. Constellation Energy may also waive your deposit if you provide a letter from a previous provider confirming that you are a reliable customer.
Constellation Energy doesn’t currently offer no-deposit plans or prepaid plans. If you’re unable to waive your deposit, you can enter your ZIP code on Choose Energy to find no-deposit and prepaid plans from other providers.
Green energy with Constellation Energy
Every Constellation Energy plan includes a percentage of renewable energy. The company also offers some 100% renewable energy plans powered entirely by wind and solar energy.
The company purchases wind energy credits to help your home lower its overall carbon footprint and installs on-site solar panels at no upfront cost. Constellation Energy owns and maintains the solar panel system while you purchase the energy produced by the solar panels. This is available for both business and residential customers.
Moving or transferring service with Constellation Energy
Constellation Energy makes it easy to take your electricity plan with you when you move to a new home. If you’re planning a move, call Constellation Energy to schedule the transfer. If you’re moving outside of the company’s service area, you can switch providers without paying an ETF.
Renting with Constellation Energy
Constellation Energy can provide your electricity regardless of whether you own your home, rent a house, or live in an apartment. If you rent, a variable-rate plan could be a good choice if you’re unsure how long you’ll be renting and want a flexible option. Enter your ZIP code to compare Constellation Energy plans in your area.
Cancellation fees
Many energy providers, including Constellation Energy, charge an ETF if you end your service before your contract expires. Constellation Energy charges a $150 cancellation fee for its 12-month fixed-rate energy plans. ETFs aren’t required for variable-rate plans or if you move outside the company’s service area.
Satisfaction guarantee
Constellation Energy offers a 90-day satisfaction guarantee. If you’re unhappy with your service during that time, you can cancel your plan without incurring an ETF. To cancel your plan within the 90-day guarantee period, notify the company in writing or by calling the company’s customer care number.

A few things to remember
Review your plan’s details. Before you choose an energy plan, you’ll want to review the plan’s Electricity Facts Label (EFL). The EFL serves as an energy buying guide and contains important information like:
- Your rate per kWh
- The amount of green energy in the plan
- Any termination fees
Let your provider handle the switch. Your new Constellation Energy electricity provider will coordinate with your utility company and handle setting up your service. There should not be any disruption in your service during the transition.
Keep track of your energy bills. When reading your bill, you’ll find charges from Constellation Energy and your local utility company. Your utility company charges for delivering energy to your home and is responsible for restoring your power during an outage.
